Frequently Asked Questions

My child has poor study skills.  Is there anything you can do?
Students often come to us with poor study skills.  However, in order to progress academically, it is imperative that they learn how to study.  As we work with our students, we ensure that they learn how to become more organized and responsible.  Furthermore, we help with the study process.  We teach students how to improve their study skills.

My child has been diagnosed with learning differences.  Can you help?
We tutor students with learning differences.  However, we must evaluate to what degree our services may be of assistance.  We do not have special education degrees.  As such, we cannot promise, without meeting both the child and parent, that we will be able to help.

What are your rates?
Our rates vary according to subject, location, and services rendered.  As such, we cannot advertise set rates.  However, our rates are extremely competitive.  In general, the range is between $35 and $50/hour, with the lower end being for middle school and the higher end for upper level high school classes.

Do you keep in touch with my child's teacher regarding progress?
In specific instances, we will speak with the child's teacher.  However, we urge parents to be in communication with teachers.

Do you provide tutoring services for all grades?
We mainly provide tutoring services to middle and high school students.  Based on parent request, we will also work with elementary school children.

Do you work with groups of students versus individuals?
We will work with groups.  However, in order for group tutorial sessions to be effective, students must be studying the same subject and be at the same academic level.

What kinds of services do you offer over the summer?
We offer all standard services during the summer.  We can go back and fill in gaps that were created during the school year.  We offer assistance to students who must attend summer school.  We also offer supplementary work in order to help students prepare for the following year.  Most often, we help students with standardized test preparation and college applications over the summer.

Do you offer short-term help?
We evaluate the situation on a case by case basis.  For instance, if a student needs help with standardized testing for two weeks, we are willing to help him/her with the test preparation process.  As a rule, however, we do not believe that students can benefit from our help a day or two before final exams.
