About Us

DFW Tutors was founded by two young professionals, Nina Verma and Amit Kooner. Nina and Amit both graduated from top universities and possess extensive tutoring backgrounds. After experiencing the tutoring quality at the branded centers first hand, Amit and Nina felt that students would benefit more from an individualized plan, rather than a predetermined curriculum. They quickly realized that there was a great need for the services they envisioned. Thus began DFW Tutors.


Nina Verma, Owner and Co-Founder

Nina graduated from University of Pennsylvania in May 1998 with degrees in both Biology and English. After graduating, she worked in Washington D.C., where she also continued to pursue her passion for tutoring children. In 2001, Nina went to Columbia University in New York to obtain her graduate degree in health management. Upon completing her studies, Nina moved to Plano, Texas with her husband. She continued working in her field, while also spending additional time tutoring.  During this time, Nina realized that individualized tutoring services were greatly needed in the area she lived. By the middle of 2006, she and Amit teamed up to create DFW Tutors in order to ensure that children receive the supplementary education they require. Obtaining degrees from Ivy League schools, Nina appreciates the value of education. She is extremely dedicated to providing comprehensive guidance so that her students achieve their academic goals.

Amit Kooner, Co-Founder

Amit Kooner has lived in the North Dallas/Plano area for the majority of his life and graduated from Plano West Senior High School in May 2001. He spent the next four years at Tulane University in New Orleans, LA studying biology and psychology. After three years, Amit starting thinking of ways he could leverage his heavy quantitative background into a future career. After coming back to his hometown of Plano, TX, he teamed up with Nina Verma and formed DFW Tutors. The goal was to provide an attractive alternative to branded tutoring centers in the area. Mr. Kooner decided to expand his business acumen by attending the Simon School of Business at the University of Rochester in Rochester, New York starting in September of 2007. He currently works as a consultant for DFW Tutors and helps Ms. Verma with recruitment and hiring practices.
